Notes from the task group conference call
Posted: 25 Apr 2005 12:15 PM
Here are notes from the LTEP task group call of 4/25/05.

Participants:
Tom Culp
Art Fabian
Dan Bishop
Ivan Paredes
Luke Turner
Sam Yuan
Joe Jonely
Joe Hayden
Patrick Muessig
Charlie Curcija
Ray McGowan

Topics
1. The LTEP research studies only included U, AL, and CRF (AAMA’s version). NFRC does have new test procedures for both SHGC (NFRC 201) and CR (NFRC 500), although they have not been used much. It was discussed whether we want to also include these as properties the user can choose to test if they want, or to keep it limited to only the original properties. The group felt that if it is an allowed NFRC procedure, there is no reason to exclude it. The manufacturer should be allowed to test these properties also, if they so choose. These properties will be added to the appropriate sections 6.3.1 and 7A.

2. It was discussed whether certain properties should be required to be measured (e.g. U, AL) whereas others are optional (e.g. CRF, CR, frost point). It was pointed out that whether something is mandatory or optional is really more relevant to the PCP than a test procedure. Although there was not overall consensus, the majority felt that all properties should be listed as optional, and the choice of what is to be measured is left to the user. This is consistent with our approach that this is a voluntary procedure for manufacturers to use to test their products, and they may only be interested in certain properties. The wording in section 6.3.1 will be modified.

3. Several minor changes were suggested:
a) Include a diagram of a test chamber in the appendix.
b) Include in section 6.3.1 wording about the pre-measurements to document physical changes, consistent with the post-measurements of section 6.3.5.
c) Delete the last sentence of section 6.3.5.
d) In 6.3.3D, clarify wording about the Xenon arc lamp requirements. 3000 W and 61 cm distance need only be approximate, and the important action is to adjust the intensity to maintain the black plate temperature. Still need to specify a maximum size for the black plate.

Action items:
a) Tom Culp will make the wording changes mentioned above. Also, please send any further comments to Tom Culp as soon as possible.
b) Sam Yuan will recommend a max size for the black plate.
c) Sam will send Tom the diagram of the test chamber.
d) Tom will send out the revised document to the task group for one more review prior to creating the ballot.

Last draft before ballot
Posted: 17 May 2005 10:53 AM
The latest draft of the LTEP test procedure is being posted on the LTEP subcommittee website. This has the changes from our last conference call.

Sam may update the figure in Appendix A, and we need to specify the black plate size in 6.3.3 D. Otherwise, I think we are ready for ballot.

Please review this carefully and send any comments ASAP.

This is your last chance for changes before we submit the ballot!
